SNETTISHAM PARK WILDLIFE
There is a rich variety of wildlife on and around Snettisham Park especially in the deer park. As the seasons change there is so much to enjoy.
ENGLISH (GREY) PARTRIDGES
Snettisham Park has recorded up to a 184 pairs of Grey partridges during the course of one year. This is a very healthy number.
SHELDUCK
Every year we have at least one pair of Shelduck on the mill pond at the top of the deer park. They nest in rabbit burrows. We have nine beautiful ducklings this year and our visitors can see them whilst on safari.
Oyster Catchers are normally found on the sea shore, but each year we have at least 1 pair hatch out in our deer park. These birds have the same colour plumage as Shelduck - long orange beak.
FRENCH PARTRIDGE
French Partridges are larger than the English, they have red legs as opposed to the English Partridge. Unlike Pheasants which are polygamous (many wives) French Partridges are generally paired for life (are monogamous).
MAD MARCH HARES
At times we have seen up to 20 hares running around together
in one field. If you see them boxing it's not actually two males but it is in fact a female boxing away a male. Hares create a vital spot within the local ecosystem and food chain providing food for many of our protected birds of prey Such as Red Kites.
